[ti:Immersive Exhibit of Monet Coming to New York City] [al:Arts and Culture] [ar:VOA] [dt:2022-09-24] [by:www.voase.cn] [00:00.00]Large fields of water lilies will grow in a New York City neighborhood this autumn, at least digitally. [00:09.45]A very large show celebrating French painter Claude Monet will open in November in a building once used as a bank in the Wall Street area. [00:24.94]The name of the show is "Monet's Garden: The Immersive Experience." [00:32.07]The immersive experience uses digital technology to show very large images of Monet's paintings on the walls and floors of the building. [00:45.70]It has music, the smell of lavender, and voice-over in several languages to help visitors immerse in the experience. [00:58.09]Dr. Nepomuk Schessl is the producer of the exhibition. [01:04.39]He said, "To be able to address more than just two senses I think will immerse people a bit more." [01:15.30]Monet lived from 1840 until 1926. [01:21.23]During his life, Monet changed from painting traditional, realistic images to capturing light, atmosphere and movement. [01:34.87]Schessl explained that Monet "was living right at the moment when photography was invented. [01:44.41]So, the whole world of art changed." [01:49.02]The show will offer many of Monet's works, from the rocky coastline of Normandy to the Japanese bridge and water lilies at his home in Giverny. [02:02.60]Swiss creative lab Immersive Art AG developed the idea for the show along with Alegria Konzert GmbH. [02:16.77]It has already been shown in some European cities and will be shown in London. [02:24.79]In some ways, Schessl thinks a huge 360-degree presentation of Monet's works fits with what Monet wanted. [02:37.07]"He wanted the spectator to completely immerse himself or herself into the painting," said Schessl. [02:47.44]Last year, two other immersive shows of the Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh came to New York City. [02:58.06]And the exhibit of Austrian artist Gustav Klimt also used similar technology. [03:06.13]Schessl says he looks at these kinds of exhibits to make sure his team knows about the newest technologies and ways of making immersive experiences possible. [03:21.03]But he said the paintings should always be the center. [03:27.65]"The technology is our means to achieve something, but it never should only be the technology," he said.
